7559 BIOS 1.1.7 Update

Go to solution Solved by psytherea,

Just got off a phone call from Dell Support.

After they hesitantly suggested that I reboot, I was able to get back into Windows 10.

Checking msinfo32, the program failed to update the bios from 1.1.5 to 1.1.7 and the computer shuts down and turns back on without a problem (for now). However an oddity occurred; startup did not have a Dell Splash screen but went straight to the spinning dots of loading W10, thus frustrating attempts to get into the bios settings (F2) and Dell SupportAssistance (F12), which I could only get into after removing the boot SSD. They chalked it up to the fast SSD boot times, but this is suspect.

7559 owners, do not update the bios to 1.1.7 until further notice. I've gotten lucky this time around, but others might not be.

Upgrading the Dell 7559 bios with 1.1.7, released March 18.

Anyone upgraded? Sitting on a black screen for at least an hour, backlit kb off even though was on during first 15 min, power button lit but front charging LED is off, full battery and wall powered during start. CPU and GPU fans kick up every few minutes, implying some kind of activity.

Power was never interrupted and never was forced off yet. Busted bios update? Bios usually doesn't take this long.

Should I wait it out overnight?

Update 1806: backlit keyboard is back on and change its brightness with F10. Will continue to update, and hopefully with good news.

I would never power down during a firmware update but in your case I think you may have no choice. Have you tried a restart to see what happens?
