New 6700k build (non-OC)

This is my planned build. I will not be OCing the CPU, but I would like the fastest memory that will work with my mobo. I will be transferring the GPU and SSD from my current build.

Priorities are: reliable, quiet, cool, fast in that order.

CPU - i7-6700k

Mobo - Asus Z170-A

Cooler - Scythe Kotetsu

Case - Fractal Design Define S

PSU - Super Flower Leadex Platinum 550w

Memory - ??? (would like DDR4-3000Mhz)

Am interested in your thoughts!

If you won't be OCing, then why...?

Then just get the i7 6700 if you're not overclocking.

Pretty sure the non-K 6700 has a lower clock speed?

It has a lower clock speed, but its able to turbo boost to 4ghz so you don't need to worry about that.

The performance difference would be minimal at best if we compare stock clocks. It can also turbo boost to 4.0GHz.

IMO, getting a K series CPU without overclocking is just wasted potential.

Also asus z170-a didnt have best reviews at all so I swiched to gigabyte for skylake

so using h170 motherboard is what you probably also want instead of pricy z170 like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128869

Also note you will need custom cpu cooler if you dont go with 6700 but with k one. I have never heard of cpu cooler you listed but people here usaly recomend 2 value coolers hyper 212 evo or slightly pricier but more silent cryorig h7...

I m not sure why you want OCed memory when it almost changes nothing if you want better ram just get more ram like 32 gb istead of 16 gb. At least start with 2x8 gb sticks and latter fill in 2 more for total of 32

I just picked up corsair lpx ddr4 2666 which was only good and value ram I had at my country but still doing 2666 instead of 2133 gave me no boost at all...

As for case yeah define s is great choice one of base cases to work with and looks awesome, but if you didnt check it has no optical drive bay if you need it then go for fractial dessign r5

In ram bandwidth intensive uses, I have good results with G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200 2x8GB kit (F4-3200C16-8GVK) in the system in my sig. Note however that in such cases I also saw ~20% performance difference from the same speed ram depending on if it was single or dual rank. Dual rank helps a lot there. The specific ram I got is dual rank, but I saw elsewhere they now do a C14 kit which is single rank, so it might be faster in latency but lower in bandwidth compared to the C16.

Then again, if you don't really have ram bandwidth intensive uses, the above will make hardly any difference at all and you can buy pretty much any kit. I've also used Corsair Vengence LPX 3000 C15 2x4GB (CMK8GX4M2B3000C15) which worked fine although it is single rank.
