690 for sure

its faster than a 980 if SLI is supported.

I have used the 690 and the 970 690 consistently wins.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

I'd take the single 970. (plus that 4gb 690 is probably two 2gb 680s, not 2 4gb 680s).

Ill take the single 970, the 690 is limited to 2gb per gpu which wont really cut it.

Go with the Single 970, it's newer, puts out less heat, draws less power, and has significantly more VRAM.

If the games you play does not require more than 2gb of Vram - 690
If the games you play require 2gb or more(pretty much any heavier game from late 2015 and newer) - GTX 970

My GTX 660 usually cant handle games at higher than Medium textures, And in Ubisoft games i sometimes have to set for Low textures. The Vram usually runs out before the raw performance for me.

My Gaming PC

|| CPU: Intel i5 4690@4.3Ghz || GPU: Dual ASUS gtx 1080 Strix. || RAM: 16gb (4x4gb) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600Mhz. || Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait edition. || OS: Win10 Pro

Thing is, any game that does not require more than 2gb vram wont utilize the 690 to its fullest power, specially newer games.

But back to the OP, the 970 is newer, handles tessellation better and you wont have to worry about SLI issues. I am surprised this thread hasn't turned into 390 vs 970.

Depends what kind of games you're gonna play. 2GB VRAM might be limiting in some titles. Out of these 2 cards I'd probably go with a 970. Or better yet, get a R9 390.
