Recently I purchased a new mobo to replace an hp dud. At the moment I have an I7 2600 but want a little more. I have been looking at some lga 1155 cpu's since, well, I have this brand new 1155 mobo. Any advice would be great guys n gals.

what gpu will you be pairing the cpu with? The 2600 should be good for most applications. I would wait and see if you really "need" a 3770k.

what chipset is it? if it can overclock then get the 3770k, if it cant overclock then stay with your processor i guess

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

gpu is an msi gaming 750ti oc edition, light gaming, boinc, and some video editing. mobo is a b75m-d3h from gigagyte. would just like to possibly get an unlocked cpu to start learning how to REALLY use a computer.

B75 chipset motherboards don't allow overclocking.

For LGA 1155, only the P-series and Z-series allowed for multiplier overclocking (i.e. P67, Z68, Z75, Z77).

At this point, stuck with the i7-2600.

It is still plenty powerful, and should not have much issues handling higher-end GPU's like the GTX 960 or 970 to be honest.

If you are going to spend the money on a i7-3770, might as well upgrade the entire system over to "Skylake."

the thing is ddr3 1600 and later the possibility of oc is an ok concept. or just a  locked 3770. but the lack of pci paths and 1600 ram kinda sucks. idk that's why I am asking you guys
