No. If you use longer ones that stretch across a certain distance, the signal starts to lose effect after a certain length. Not sure of how long, but they do deppricate in strength and they will stop working if you use too may connectors or make the card so far away from the mobo.

 

linus mentioned it in his table/desk build guide as well.

They may introduce a minor amount of latency but it is unlikely that you would notice the difference while gaming.

If they work properly then they don't really have an impact on performance, there is a very good test on it here:

The main thing is for short <25cm extensions the regular unshielded ones usually are not a problem unless there is a lot of noise in the case where shielded extensions are needed, but are usually the best option.
