Using dd-wrt to make a wifi router into an adapter

I am using a router that i flashed dd-wrt onto to make a wireless adapter for my gaming desktop. I am having issues getting it to work despite having tried multiple tutorials. I am thinking the issue is that my internet uses a default gateway in the 10.0.0.1 range. i need help getting this to work.

What model is it? Did you have to flash it? Did it originally have a bridge mode?

A netgear wndr-3400. I don't think it did and I am not sure about having to flash it. i followed a tutorial that said to go through the netgear router's default firmware and upload dd-wrt to it.
