I would go with a Haswell i5 for this build. Probably a 4460 and go with a cheap mobo.

Over budget, but getting the 380 is going to be worth waiting a bit, just order everything but the GPU

also this board is going to be about the best budget 1151

an i3 is going to be fine for gaming/basic video editing

yes, but the next step down is a 750 ti... And that still might not be enough to afford an i5 at his budget -_-

that much is true, if he wanted more than dual core he can opt for the fx6300

True but it isnt gonna be a huge issue. Intel seems to have less problems and better single core performance. I mean i even have amd and i can admit that. Itll edit video and record it just fine.

The i3 has hyperthreading which greatly helps it in games that practically require quad cores, and an i3 + better GPU is going to be better than an i5 + weak GPU for gaming

yea, the 6100 would destroy the 6300 in single core performance, But multi threaded wise, they're both approximately the same, tho u can OC the 6300

if he's looking for video edit (and possibly record his gameplay) he should opt for 6300 xD

This thread needs at least one AMD build.

AMD will have some chance when AM4 comes out, otherwise not too much reason to get them atm at $500 and over builds

Although you can get an 8320E for around the same price as the i3 build above

Good if Oced

Still not as good as an i3 though as the i3 can ALSO be overclocked
