Assuming nothing is broken, it'll excel at Youtube, Emails, and Web browsing. But you could get a great laptop for that price if you won't actually be playing any games.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

Did you miss the part about the r9 290? You can pretty much play anything with that.

I don't think I will be playing any games so how much is a good price to sell the 290?

Yep. But it's overkill if you're just browsing the web.

Depends on how long it was used, but you can get around $200 bucks. It goes for 259 used on amazon

Maybe have the seller clarify that. The i5 3550 uses DDR3. Also ask how he got 12 GB in that board which has 2 ram slots.

I put together some of the parts and its already almost $1000: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/c3kwGX

thanks for your suggestions. What do I do to check that the computer is working properly if I went there to buy it?

Well, have him turn it on, check that it acutally has Windows 10. Confirm it has two drives in windows explorer (though the HDD might need to be formated if he wiped it). Check the Wifi works if you want to use that at some point.

You could. But it's likely fine if there's no overclock and it boots.

i would be extremely weary of this buy though, the price seems too good to be true, and 99% of the time, it is.
