2 120mm or 140mm Fans for Thermaltake Core V21?

Tesel

Hello,

I"m looking to build in the Thermaltake Core V21, and the one thing I don't like is the 200mm case fan at the front. Do you have any suggestions for decent fans, either 120mm or 140mm, to replace this with? I'm looking for fairly inexpensive, and right now, I'm looking at the Cooler Master SickleFlow fans. Is there anything that is better than that and still reasonably cheap?

Fans, just ike PSUs, are some of the most resiient components of your chassi. And by the LTT video "How many fans do I need" you coud very much go with the notorious noctua fans :) Theyre not that much more expensive and theres a good reason theyre the best!

Excuse my broken keyboard

I will check out that video! However, I have heard of the Fractal Design Venturi which are similar and performance but less expensive, do you have any experience with those?

I have Venturi HF-14 and they are ultimately good

Right, I'm looking at the HF-12 and HF-14.

Would there be any reason to go with the PWM versions?

The PWM ones are for radiators or if the case has any HDD cages and they are louder but airflow ones are pretty silent to their 118CFM

Have you considered your fan equation in terms of building a positive or negative pressure case?

Remember to consider the airflow principle also ;)

Is there something specific I should be doing?

I'm planning on using the front fans, which I need to buy, as intake, and then using the fan on the Hyper 212 EVO to move some extra air over the motherboard.

I plan on using a horizontal motherboard layout, and I think that is the best option for positive pressure.

After some research, I am also considering switching out the CPU cooler for something like the Shadow Rock 2:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/be-quiet-cpu-cooler-bk013

Any other good CPU coolers in that price range?

And how are be quiet! fans like the Pure Wings:

with the MoBo in horizontal where are you planning on having the window, top or side?

If top then consider keeping the 200 mm in front, and adding 120 mm or 140 mm fans to the sides as intake.  The general flow will then be out the rear.

Also, with the 212 EVO you will have limited space for an exhaust fan anyway.  A 25 mm thick rear fan is effectively an offset push-pull configuration.

Makes sense. I don't think I'll bother with the rear fan. Assuming I pull the trigger, I will decide whether I want to add on the 140mm fans and keep the 200mm, or replace the 200mm outright. Also, what are your thoughts on replacing the stock fan on the Hyper 212 Evo? Will it make much of a difference, positive or negative?

Thank you all for the input.

Remember that to have effective cooling your airflow needs to as linear as possible. Most cases will be from bottom front to top back as hot air rises.

Positive pressure means your total intake fan pressure in CFM is higher than the extracting fans blowing air out of the case (aids in stopping dust build-up in case and components), Negative pressure is reverse of that.

Yes, as of right now I plan to have two fans pushing air through the front of the case (intake fans), with the fan on the Hyper 212 EVO moving the same direction to help airflow across the motherboard. I assume this works for positive pressure?

Yes, but it doesn't help the extraction as you are just sucking in and moving internally, nothing is pushing it out, this is not ideal. A rear fan would be recommended.

That is what I was wondering... I was thinking I would put a 140mm fan as exhaust if that would help. Thanks!
By the way, what's your opinion on the fans I'm looking at, the be quiet! Pure Wings?

I'm not too familiar with those specifically, but if there's enough reviews that rate it well, then you should be fine.

Performance wise little to no difference.  I changed mine to a Bitfenix for aesthetic reasons.

Well that's somewhat what I thought, I'd like to change out the fan for appearance as well.

Yes, they are 5 stars with 20+ reviews.

Thank you both!
