hey guys,

so i wanted to start a discussion on wether you think freesync is gonna help amds marketshare and sales or not.

with more and more freesync monitors coming out i personally see myself going amd for my next upgrade even though i have prefered nvidia in the past.

so wich side are you picking for your next upgrade? would you go amd if your monitor supported freesync? is freesync enough for you to jump ship?

the trigger for my asking is the lg 34UC88-B im planning on getting next month and seeing as it has FreeSync i then thought oh well i guess im gonna go red next time.

so what are your thoughts on the whole amd and freesync matter? is g-sync dead? or will it die you think? could this be a win for amd?

I have no decision as to who will be my next upgrade as I have no idea how either performs at this point, and I refuse to make a decision until I see the performance numbers and pricing. As mentioned non-explicitly, FreeSync is not enough for me to jump ship as I care more about performance and pricing than Adaptive Sync technologies.

I don't think G-Sync is dead, but its market share is not as great as it could be if NVIDIA just decided to open G-Sync up to AMD and Intel, and not charge such a huge premium for it when FreeSync largely provides the same function with no additional hardware, and no crazy additional cost(unless the manufacturers decide to do it).

SNIP

VESA officially implemented freesync into the display port 1.2a standard

Gsync is proprietary, but with Nvidias market share, its hard to say

I'm running a freesync monitor, but not an AMD video card. I see no problem here.

You can't use FreeSync. That's a problem.

FreeSync is not the sell argument for AMD for me (but I have to say that I used a cheap old monitor for years and never GSync or FreeSync bevor) for me is the policy from NVidia in generall not acceptabl.

And even if AMD would leaved a bit behind NVidia with the next Architecture I would buy a AMD card if I need a new one except the overall performance gap in my price range at this time is not to wide and the price to performance is really shit. But to answer your question, if I want to buy a new monitor and a graphic card at nealy or at the same time than I would invest a bit more to use FreeSync, so yeah AMD is for me further in Software simply because they share a new development ( most of the time) and push the overall development without let their customers bleed to use it (more than they have to, sure software development is a part of the pricing in their products)

I would get an AMD card purely because in NZ finding Gsync under $800 is impossible and if I was to go all out I'd love a 144hz freeSync

Once Intel adds support for their version of Freesync, it will most likely dominate the market, with G-Sync becoming more of a niche feature (unless/until Nvidia gives up).

i feel like its the same thing as their 3d feature. yeah its there but who really uses it.

Adaptive sync technologies are still niche and they cannot have great impact on overall market share. But if AMD manages to create GPU offer at least as good as Nvidia's and keep their FreeSync free, and G-sync will still be doubling price of a monitor, gamers should choose AMD much more often because they will get the same at much lower price. At least gamers with clear mind, not lemmings.

Even now going for AMD looks to be much more sensible if you want monitor with adaptive sync. Differences in GPU scores are not huge and differences in prices of monitors with adaptive sync are very very huge. In Poland for example you get 27" 4K IPS G-sync for 3300-4000 ZL, while similar or even better FreeSync is 2100 ZL. ROG IPS 144 Hz G-sync - 3700, Free-sync 2500. G-sync 34" ultrawide - 5500-6000 ZL, FreeSync - 3800 ZL. You can get FreeSync monitor and AMD GPU capable of driving it for price of g-sync monitor only :P

i i think for me its settled ill go amd . only thing ill miss is physx but its not like i could ever use it anyway since it always makes my fps counter cry
