Will my Mobo work with the r9 390x

My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H, I wanted to know if i could run a MSI Radeon R9 390 or 390X GPU on it. I just wanted to make sure it can support it before buying it.

(if you want to know more about my build see my profile)

Thank you!!

as long as your motherboard have pci-e slots that allows for 16x sized cards to fit in,

it'll most likely run

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Keep in mind that a 390 will bottleneck any cpu on the fm2+ platform.

Yea but your CPU is kind of a bottleneck. Save yourself 100 dollars and pick up an r9 390. Or even an r9 380 would be good enough to be honest :/

Main PC |CPU - i7-6700k|GPU - R9 290x tri-x 4gb|RAM - 16gb ddr4|MOBO - MSI z170 - A PRO|HDD - WD 1TB/240gb Sandisk |PSU - 700w Raidmax

Laptop |CPU - i7 4720hq|GPU - 960m 2gb|Ram - 8gb 2x4|Model - y50-70 Touch|SSD - 240gb Patriot drive|Display - 1920x1080 IPS touch

390x is barely faster than the 390. Get the cheapest video card that will do what you want then save up for a new platform if your goal is getting the best bang for your buck.

So you think the MSI Radeon R9 380 4GB will do fine for gaming and light video editing?

I don't really need to game at 1440 1080 and 780 works for me as long as I have at least 30fps

The 380 should get 60fps on mid to high settings at 1080p.

Lol. There's a far cry between 1080 and *720p. I'd recommend the 7950 or 7970 if u can find them under $100

Nope. 7000 series was designed by AMD. 7950 = R9 280 and 7970 = 280x. Around the performance of a GTX 960/R9 380 for a bit less. Best value video card will have to be the 290 for $200.

Yeah if you can get a 290 for a good price go for that. Depending how big of a city you live in you should be able to find one sub $200 if you're in Canada and sub $150 if you're in the US.

And even though you may be cpu limited in some games, if you have the funds to upgrade again in the near future, picking up a used haswell cpu and mobo would really make that 290 shine.

Also some people have been able to successfully flash a 290x rom onto a 290 although i'm not sure the specifics about that. You'd have to google it up.

As for the 7000 series cards at least get a 280x or 380 since the driver support will be better despite them being the same card. I do believe 7000 parts ARE legacy now.

Low-end HD 7000 (7600 and below) series is legacy. High-end HD 7900 and 7800 is still supported as non-legacy hardware -- the 'Tahiti XT(2)' used in the HD 7950, 7970, and 7990 got transferred over to the R9-280 and R9-280X, while the 'Pitcairn' core from the HD 7870 and 7850 got passed down to the R9-270(X) and R7-265.

Why are the 390's and 380's cheaper than the 290's new?

The sellers probably never dropped the price when they launched, or are tring to get people to pay more for specific versions of the card, a used 290 should be roughly $150 to $200 depending on condition.

The MSRP would be lower since AMD had to recoup the research and development costs for the 'Hawaii' chip design when they first used it in the R9-290(X). When they brought it out again for the R9-390(X), the cost is already paid off.

This also applies for the R9-380, since the R9-285 that existed before it uses the same 'Tonga' core.
