My brother was given an old HP Pavilion p6745f Desktop with an i5-2300 in it. Would a 750ti be a good upgrade to put in it? He doesn't play AAA titles and doesnt mind everything near low. Is it a good upgrade for gaming at 768p (Only thing with an HDMI (Its a tiny TV))?

yep :)

my HD 6450 paired with a Celeron E3400 gets over 30fps in Tomb Raider at 1024x768, low-medium settings.

The 750ti will do much better though.

The 750Ti is a great budget card and would be a great addition to his PC. The CPU is a trooper and more than adequate for 1080p gaming let alone 768p. Just ensure the PSU is suitable.

750tis are powered through the mobo so I think it will survive. If not I'll get him an evga 430w 80+ one for christmas or something

Some factory overclocked cards require 6 pin power. Not many but I don't know which card OP's brother would be purchasing.

You could probably throw a damn 970 and a decent PSU in there.

The 970 is overkill for gaming at 768p unless he plans to get a 1080p monitor.

Eh.

How did you not understand that? Why would OP's brother want to get a 970 to game at 768p. It's simply a waste of money. For the price of a 970 he could get a 1080p monitor and a pinless 950.

I did. Just saying, a better card > better monitor for me.

That's a given in most scenarios but not this scenario.

My brother is 10, He'd laugh if I told him to spend that much.

Well I'm sure OP's brother would think it's a bad thing.

He;s to young to understand overkill. His current monitor is a TV though. I made get an HDMI to VGA to use the 900p monitor I have lying around. Would a 750ti still be good?

yes, very good...and make sure you get one that does not require additional power connector...some of them do.
