Hey everyone,

as mentioned in my recent Build Log, I rather accidentally bought a 2tb WD Red HD (I forgot to change my shopping cart) -> obviously not really perfect for gaming. Since I didnt want to wait with the build until a new HD arrived, I said screw it and put it in the rig anyways.

My question isn*t really which one is better (obviously the black), I would rather like to know if you guys think if would sense to buy an additional WD Black for gaming or wont it make much of a difference?

I already have my favorites on my SSD (BF4, GTA V) but the space is obviously not enough for the future.

Setup:

CPU:     Intel i7 6700k

Case:   CM Mastercase 5 Pro

Mobo:  ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Ranger

RAM:    HyperX FURY DDR4-2400

GPU:    Palit 970 (I already had that one)

PSU:    Corsair RM750x

SSD:    Samsung EVO 850 250gb

HDD:    WD Red 2tb

Cooling: Corsair H110i GT

I would say to just keep the Red. I see the drive is being used nothing but for data (Since the OS is on the SSD). You won't really see any appreciable difference between the Red and the Black aside from slightly longer load time. The difference between my Red 4TB (160MB/s seq read/write @ $140) and the Re SAS 4TB (180MB/s seq read/write @ $250) is not worth the extra for the 7,200 RPM drive.

I have the Red and the Black, and to be honest, there really isn't much of a difference speed wise. I actually prefer my Reds as they are much quieter and generally rated as more reliable long run. As Deli said, if you really want to notice improve game loading speeds, an SSD is the answer :)
