GPU doesn't try in stress test

Go to solution Solved by aisle9,

Did the drivers crash since the last time you booted up? That's a very common phenomenon for Maxwell architecture. Reboot the PC and that should get you back above 514MHz (or whatever it freezes up at).

Trying to overclock my GTX 950 using MSI Afterburner and then stressing it with Kombustion, and the GPU doesn't seem to want to try in the stress test. For some reason it was earlier but then I tweaked the core clock a little more and now it just doesn't seem to care. I tweaked it back and it was still the same thing. The GPU just doesn't want to push. Its temp stays at 40 degrees C constantly and just doesn't want to move. I don't think I changed anything, so let me know if I'm missing something because the temp stays constantly at 40 C and the FPS just stays at 29-30 even though I know it can do better. (BTW using 1920x1080 w/ 2x MSAA, lmk if I should try something higher)

Maybe it's tired and wants a rest?

lol try increasing the voltage and power limit too

Can't push the voltage because they restrict lower end GPUs on that, even though I checked "Unlock Voltage Control" and my power limit is at max.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Yeah I restarted my PC and it's good now. So it does that after the driver crashes too many times?

It's been kind of random in my experience. Usually if I really shoot the moon on an overclock and the whole system freezes up for several seconds, forget it, but if it's just a quick crash with a recovery message, it usually doesn't screw everything up like that. Neither outcome is guaranteed, though.

Worst case scenario if you reboot a couple times and your GPU still isn't powering up, reinstall the drivers and you're set.
