Hello,

So this happened literally just now, but Windows 10 started installing on my computer. I've been trying to avoid it for a while so I was panicking to turn my computer off. The power button wouldn't work, so my last resort was to turn it off through the power supply.

I'm now extremely worried that my computer won't work right or will be performing worse, so was this a safe move to do?

Everything seems to be running fine now that it's back on, I didn't get a message saying Windows stopped working abruptly, all that I saw was my antivirus and Windows trouble shooting window when logging in.

So is my computer safe and nothing is wrong?

Thank you,

Jettster

You could have caused data corruption so run chkdsk but if nothing is broken you should be fine. It is generally inadvisable to kill the power while you may have pending writes. It is a particularly bad idea to kill the power when installing patches or say updating windows.

Windows 10 has a rollback option and it should ask you explicitly if you want to install at some point even if the installer automatically starts.

Well if you see an actual issue (such as the power switch thing) again then don't hesitate to tap it into the forum.

Apart from that, I'd say that you should consider running "Event Viewer" and having a good ol' browse just in case there's any funny business.

"Windows 10 is installing! Quick, press the power button!" xD

Might be some corruption, doesn't hurt to use your computer normally and see if anything goes wrong. Or clean install.
