Fury X failing SteamVR Performance test??

Hey guys, I wanted to add my data to the LTT survey on the SteamVR performance test scores, and well feel good about my baby (my rig).

 

I was shocked when I got the result attached - my 4970K, R9 Fury X machine is only 'capable' of VR (4 average fidelity), - AND the GPU is the bottleneck. 

 

At first I thought the new (super annoying) plays.tv update, which makes it record automatically, had had an impact, but after killing that, and making sure I hadn't capped my FPS in Crimson, I ran the test again and got the same result.

I wasn't running anything heavy at the time, just the background processes running when you've got various drivers for hardware, and clients like GOG Galaxy, Uplay, and the like. 

 

I have not, however, noticed any problems with my performance during games, but then again I probably haven't pushed the GPU very hard yet, since I'm only running on a 1440p display (and usually set my max FPS to 60 since it's a 60hz monitor). But it has been running Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, etc on max settings at above 60 fps (again I usually have it capped by crimson).

 

 

I guess running a different GPU performance test would let me see if my scores are close the regular Fury X scores - which test can I run to best establish whether the GPU as faulty? 

 

Just to let you guys know the system specs are:

Asus Z97 Pro Gamer

i7 4790K

Kingston HyperX Savage 16GB (2400mhz as far as I remember)

Kingston SSDnow v300 240GB 

and the Radeon R9 Fury X (ordered the moment it hit the market, has the coil whine noise)

 

Please let me know what extra info I can add to allow you guys to help me reach a conclusion.

Ehh, the Fury X will be absolutely fine for Oculus. It's a very biased test

half the VR demos run on Fury Xs. this is odd indeed

Close any other programs running in the background. Had the same problem with my GTX 980 which was "Not Capable" of running VR despite being overclocked...

Yeah I'm aware that it should be fine, it was kinda developed to run VR, and other tests show great results for it (see image).

 

So what I'm afraid off is that I have a faulty card, while what I'm hoping for is that I'm a dummy and have missed some important software issue.

I love how the Fury is close in performance to the Fury X, and costs way less and is still good for VR.

Lol I scored a measly 0.4 take that! My CPU being the limiting factor.

I have an AMD Fx-4100. I am afraid  to take that test, as I may fry something.  At least I have water cooling... I know, it's a crappy CPU for the price, but it's what I have

Mine is a water cooled 6700k at 4.8ghz and the CPU is so limiting apparently that I got a 0.4

My motherboard would probably only OC my processor to 3.7 ghz, which it did because I don't care for turbo boost

But my score is.. Wtf. During the test CPU usage was at a peak for 40% 30% was due to skype and steam, origin, uplay, and my 60 chrome windows.

The VR test is pretty inconsistent, I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Hi bro.  I had the same problem.  I changed my Fury x of pci express and install again the drivers, in this order, without unistall the drivers...  I passed from 4.4 to 9.7 score, same fps though, so it is a Steam Valve annoying bug.
