Best camera

What is the best camera for shooting B Roll like LTT under $350 a little more or a little less money is ok. Thank you!

Look into getting a Canon T3 or T3i.

Really isnt much within that price range.

Do you already own a camera that can record video?  If so, use that camera.  Otherwise for that budget get a camcorder.

The reason we're wondering is because we know that any camera that's good enough to be used to record primary footage (A-roll) is also good enough for secondary/supplemental footage (B-roll).  People do not need to use different cameras unless there's an alternate film crew or Second Unit that needs to have their own camera(s) to record the footage they need because the main camera(s) is/are being used.

Well even then before buying a camera you'd need to know what your requirements are in a camera.

 

If my budget was limited to only $400 I sure wouldn't be buying a DSLR/MILC for video.  With that budget all I'd get is a camera body and kit lens without any other gear that makes a basic video kit.

You don't need a separate camera for B-Roll unless your first camera is being used by someone else. 'B-Roll' doesn't mean 'Fancy shots of products'- if I'm not wrong, it simply means footage intercut with the main shot. 

Although, if you don't have a camera at all, I've heard some great things about the Rebel SL1. It'll push $350 for sure, but it's probably the cheapest new DSLR. Alternatively, you could look into camcorders or used DSLRs- there are usually some great deals on Ebay.

That is what it means, but everyone watches Linus and MKBHD etc, who call it all "b-roll" so everyone thinks that is what it means

I hope I'm mistaken, but that seems to be what Team LMG thinks B-roll is too.

That 'B-roll' shot is still the main shot, taken with the main camera (they only appear to have one on-site to begin with). Well, it could also be a joke.

B-Roll is footage supplemental or intercut footage that supports the main shot

Example:

Main Shot : Linus talking about a computer case
B-Roll : shots of the case taken at a different time in a studio enviromnet

I'm aware. That's why I posted that video, where the shot the crew refers to as 'B-Roll' isn't really 'B-Roll'.

Oh I see what you are saying, LTTs interpretation is wrong

Wouldn't surprise me  I mean considering they have full time camera operators and a massive budget you think they would have even better looking shots
