The Division E3 vs Release - Console Parity Bullsh*t / Watchdogs Strikes Again

We all knew it was downgraded for no reason other than platform parity, which is not a valid reason, this video shows just how much.

Yes it is. But its no way near WatchDogs or Witcher 3 Downgrade Level.

Still a very good looking Game. I dont believe any E3 "Gameplay footage" in the first place.

Still looks good imo. Even better in some aspects.

But multiplat games will always be this way.

The game is still good looking and it's pretty hardware demanding as well, if it was even more demanding people would complain about it being "unoptimized".

The biggest difference is the time of day, brightness and the changing of the volumetric fog in that scene, elsewhere in the game its there,

If they were trying to hide this or get away from the comparison they wouldn't have put this scene at the very start of the game,

I posted them over on the screenshots thread, but my version of the division looks quite different to the release one shown in that vid. And I don't simply mean time of day, but  shadows and AO seem a notch under max (Ultra quality preset doesn't bring those up to their max at all, not even close).

That said - it's not to the level of the E3 vertical slice. But it's not Watch_dogs bad. Still though, Ubisoft being Ubisoft.

I'd say Watch dogs was a bigger downgrade than w3, but that's not to say the witcher's downgrade wasn't staggering. The only reason it gets overlooked is the scale of the game paired with the narrative being so strong. Basically its positives outweighed the downgrade enough to let people overlook it.

That wasn't the case with watch_dogs. It was a weak version of gta.

Yes, no doubt watchdogs was shit.

Yup.

Though I'll agree that these "in engine footage" / "vertical slice" / "tech demo" hype generators need to go away. I don't for a second believe that this is a development decision. It's clearly on the producers / financiers side to show off something spectacular to generate interest, even if its not a true representation of the final product. I don't think the guys doing the hard work, actually building the game, want their work misrepresented like that, and I'm sure they hate it as much as we do. Worse still when the guys paying your salary want you to defend it.

It's a cheap tactic and I hate it, even if it comes from a studio whose other practices and general attitude toward the consumer are above and beyond the norm in the industry, as it is with CDPR.

Lots did, I did, but the thing with that game was that not all the areas were finished, the VGX trailer and E3 private demos greatness used those areas because those areas were finished. The "Next Gen" consoles dropped on CDPR at the original scheduled end of development (the optimization phase) only they were not "Next Gen" and they had already been developing for them but the hardware couldn't handle as much as the dev software MS/Sony gave out before their consoles released. The expected performance of the consoles was between a GTX 750ti and GTX 960. They either had to pull the conSLOW version completely or not finish the visual environment and stop using real world lighting (fire scene in VGX, night fire lights lad and clouds and is main light source for a mile or so).

All that backed by the game actually being good (unlike Ubisoft which games suck and are downgraded to make conslows look better and to get graphics hype at E3) is way CDProjektRed are forgiven, they got tons of backlash, that forgiveness is not a pass.

Somehow Ubisoft gets a pass all the time.

Performance looks ok, apart from Nvidia kepler. Most of the GPUs are performing well and as you would expect. Below is ULTRA settings.

i´m positive about The Division, i do like the game, but also the graphics.

There might be a bit of downgrading, but it is not that much.. looks ABSOLUTELY brilliant in 3840x2160, but struggling with a 47FPS Avg at HIGH with 2x970 (Sli is for me at max 40-45% better than single card)

A LARGE amount of "debris" Detailed elements, lot´s of destructable elements.

i´m positive, i do HATE these "alpha E3 launches" with BETTER graphics, it´s bullshit.

also the CONSOLE PARITY thing, but this is not bad.

WATCHDOGS was bad, especially because of all the HIDDEN graphical settings, with no load on GPU.

but even PC exclusive has issues, XCOM2 runs like SHIT on pc´s with stutter..

so i am positive, this is a good release, might not be for everyone, because of the RPG/MMO gametype, but it is not a bad game.

on par with MGS5 as a "port" for me.

The News section had threads with 20-30 pages with people arguing an complaining, so yeah, lots of people did.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.
