Google releases Android N Developer Preview

asim1999

Good news, it is now available. New feautures include native split screen, a new flatter notifications panel and data saving features as well as a bettt. Also, thankfully the App Drawer is still here

Quote

If you own the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Nexus 9 and Pixel C, you can sign up later today to receive the preview on your device. Note that the Nexus 5 is not included. Once the preview is installed on those devices, you will receive future updates. While the page is not yet live (it will be later today), you can sign up at www.google.com/android/beta. Or, you can flash the system image for each of the above mentioned devices by going to www.developer.android.com/preview

Some of the changes now seen in the Developer Preview include the addition of a native split screen for phones and tablets. Picture-in-picture capabilities are also coming to Android with the new build. "Direct Reply Notifications" allows developers to build in a feature allowing users to reply to incoming notifications directly from the notifications shade. And Android N will improve on Doze by allowing the feature to save more battery power when the screen is off. Additionally, Google is working on making apps run in the background more efficiently to reduce the operating system's consumption of memory.

One new feature, Data Saver, will allow Android users to reduce the use of data by apps running in the background, and tries to reduce data consumption when an app is running in the foreground. This is accomplished by "limiting bit rate for streaming, reducing image quality, deferring optimistic precaching," and other methods.

Sadly i cannot include pictures as there are issues with resizing as they are too big

this release is by no means stable. it may be good enough to be a daily driver but Google isn't promising anything at this point. wait for the next release. i'd flash it on my 6P but it's my only device

For a dev release its pretty stable,  I have had minimal issues so far.  I was expecting a shit storm and it wasn't

you can buy it unlocked for pretty cheap at this point in time. Also depending on where you live you can get a Nexus 5X for $199 by signing up for Google Project Fi

If i contact someone in the USA to get this phone for me, of caurse i'll send 200$ and he'll send me the phone will this work? Are there some restrictions? There is no chance in near 50 years that projects like project fi coming in my country, we does not even have apple, sony, HTC, products official sellers, I live in Georgia (no not the state of america, in east europe)

sadly prices are too high in my country

nexus 5x 16 GB costs ~430$ nexus 6p costs ~680$

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

what will that actually do? I consider toning down my brightness as night mode.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

It is similar to night theme on the LTT forum. makes the system UI theme dark.

I don't know the specifics of that. Just look into it a bit more.

oh thats wonderful. Its one of the many reasons why i dont buy LG phones or Samsung unless it can get Cyanogen (or any OS with a white background on menus) because it hurts my eyes.
