corsair h55 or h60: 49.99

new monitor (1080p, 60hz, 24"): 130ish

new GTX 970: 299

i5 4690k: 225$

144hz monitor: 225ish

I would say go with another monitor or a 144hz monitor

if you can afford it maybe upgrade to 4690k and a 144hz monitor.

a GTX 970 by itself is a beast for 1080

2k 60Hz or 1080p 144Hz?

1080p 144hz. Personally im not making the jump to 4k until i can achieve 60fps (smooth) or better without the badassest card(s) in the world. I'm probably going to wait 2-3 more years to go to 4k. although you never know how the next gen will do.

4k is ucomfortable for me, as i would have to throw one or two 970.
