Best gaming AM3+ Motherboard?

Hey LTT Users,

 

I like the YouTube Channel and now I'm here.

I'd like to have a new motherboard with UEFI and a nice BIOS. Maybe I should alsop replace the 1333 RAM.

 

I'm currently having this System:

CPU:
AMD FX8150 Octa Core

 

RAM:

2* 8GB HyperX DDR3 RAM (1866)

2* 4GB DDR3 RAM (1333)

 

Current Motherboard:

GA-970A-UD3 (rev. 1.2)

 

GPU:

Sapphire NITRO R9 390 (8GB DDR5)

 

Power Supply:

700W Corsair

 

Storage:

1* 500GB Samsung SSD EVO 850

1* 1TB WD Black

Ram speed does not matter all that much and if it does you can just overclock it

 

I mean you really dont have to replace the gigabyte 970a as it is a good motherboard but I would reccomend the MSI 970A-Gaming or MSI 970A Krait Edition 

and if you really have money Asus Sabertooth 970A Revision 1.0

AM3+ is old, outdated and slow...you already have a motherboard and a bulldozer CPU and it won't really get any better than that on that socket...i strongly suggest either waiting for Zen or upgrading to an intel platform, if you can't afford it right now hold on to what you have and start saving money, you're beating a dead horse. BTW you won't see the full performance of that R9 390 GPU in games until you move to a proper modern platform, so start saving now.

So should I wait for Zen or upgrade to Intel? I don't care if I have an intel pc or an amd pc.

the 8150 has even worse IPC than the updated 83XX variants which are already severely lacking.

 

I wouldn't spend a dime into that platform anymore.

if you need an upgrade right now (you do...) then you would have no choice but to look at intel stuff...but i think Zen will not match haswell or skylake anyways...and if it does then AMD will charge a fair amount for it so you likely wouldnt even be saving that much.

You can either look at haswell CPU's and re-use your RAM (i would just keep the 2x8GB kit that you have, and sell the rest as a trio (mobo/CPU/RAM) for cheap somewhere (online) or just straight up go with DDR4 and a skylake or haswell-E build.

 

TLDR: sell FX-8150, motherboard and the slow 2x4GB kit to the most offering, and order a Z97 motherboard with an i7-4790K and re-use your 2x8GB of fast DDR3 RAM...this would be the most cost effective solution IMHO.
