I recently switched from a AMD athlon x4 860k to a Intel Core I5-4460 and first couple of days everything was fine but now after a week my computer has slowed down. EX.)  when i try to launch steam it takes way longer then usual, trying to launch league, file explorer ect. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Are you using an HDD, cause that sounds like a hard drive problem.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

if your using a hard drive like DocSwag mentioned you should defragment it, and see if that changes anything. Windows has a built in tool to do this (dont do it on an SSD).

Gaming - Ryzen 9800X3D | 64GB 6400mhz cl30 9070 XT

Homelab - many servers...constantly changing.

3970X/256GB - 5950X/128GB ECC - 5600G/96GB - 3400GE/16GB - 3400GE/16GB

As others have said, it's probably your hard drive. Check to see if it's fragmented at all. If it is, it could be that. However, I've looked at plenty of slow computers in my day, and I can't think of a single case in which it was *actually* fragmented at all.

I'd check your I/O speeds. If you're on Win8 or higher, Task Manager will report disk usage. If there are a lot of programs accessing the disk, that might be why. Look through what programs are using the disk and see if there are any that you can live without, either by uninstalling or just disallowing them to run in the background.

If that doesn't improve things, maybe it's time to look at putting an SSD in your rig.

AMD FX-4300 @ 4.2 GHz --- Cooler Master Hyper TX3 --- MSI 970A-G46 --- 8 GB DDR3 RAM

XFX R9 270X 2 GB --- 250 GB Samsung 840 Series SSD --- 2 TB Smasung HDD

EVGA SuperNOVA 750W B2 --- Corsair Spec-01 + 2x SilenX EFX-12-15 + NZXT Sentry Mesh

Windows 10 + Ubuntu 14.04
