GPU for gaming, video recording, editing & rendering

So I'm considering between the 7950 (I've seen it as low as $210 USD) and the 760 (~$250).

Now, I am more than sure both will be more than adequate for what I'm trying to do now (1080p60 gaming) but I might step up a notch in my video editing (more effects, higher res, etc).

So far 7950 is better in 4 areas (5 incl. price but disregard that): 1. higher ram 2. higher memory bandwidth (I heard it makes a world of difference when rendering GPU-accelerated) 3. more powerful in general and 4. games

But apparently 760 is also very effective for what I'm trying to do (according to the internet).

So I'm really split between these two... help?

P.S. Coolbeans and Dravic are NOT allowed to answer :P

P.P.S. Program I'll be using utilizes both OpenCL and CUDA

P.P.P.S. I've heard Adobe's openCL implementation is still not as efficient/fast as that of CUDA.

Edit: I plan to overclock a bit, but not like crazy. Not sure if that adds into part of the equation or not but just throwing it out there.

thanks for any word of help... This will be my first time buying pc parts and building it myself.

I would go with the 7950, CUDA cores are slowly being phased out my companies and OpenCL is being used more. As for Adobe products I would go with OpenCL since they are going to optimized their products for OpenCL instead of CUDA.

7950/7970 and if you want to get more FPS while recording, get a AverMedia

that is coolbeans right there.

AMD is a better solution at the moment. You're right, CUDA is better than OpenCL in Adobe applications, in the long run this will change. You will be able to get much more performance from AMD for that price range. In terms of recording, I have a barracuda drive to record to. DxTory records 60 fps@1080p to that drive with no problems with the lagarith codec. FRAP's will record at a much higher quality, but it also needs to write more so you can only record at 45fps

I am good at computer

OpenCL with the 7950 is quite better than CUDA with the 760 for Adobe.

Adobe is one of the prime examples that are probably going to be relying on OpenCL over CUDA in the future.

Okay, then why are people buying 760 and recommending 760 for my applications over 7950?

And Coolbeans actually got a point with using external recorder... that would be a bit tight for my budget, but I will keep that possibility in mind.

Nvidia Shadowplay?

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

how about for editing?

Depends on the software itself, whether it uses CUDA well or only OpenCL.

Ah I see. thanks for replying. Inclined to go the AMD route b/c openCL is becoming more and more widely accepted.

One more thing though: why is 760 better at gaming for the most part (see AnandTech GPU2013 comparison) and most benchmarks?
