Best 380?

Looking for a reliable 380 and if its on sale even better! This is for a friend , his specs are: 

MSI 970A-G46

Phenom II X4

4gb of RAM

750w PSU

For real Sapphire have the best coolers avaible, at least from my experience. I also was pretty lcky in silicon lottery.

Ya from my experience sapphire's support is excellent but I've heardhorror stories about them.

I just told you to avoid Asus or Gigabyte because they're both bad for 300 series AMD cards. Sapphire >= MSI > XFX & Powercolor >>>> Asus and Gigabyte.

With a CPU on that low-end, get Nvidia hardware. Not sure why people still aren't factoring in CPU when choosing a GPU.

 

 

I'd say 950 or 960.

If you want the short version: AMD drivers are more dependant on your CPU power than NVIDIAs drivers so even though a 380 is faster than a 960 the NVIDIA side will be beneficial here because your CPU is so weak.

I have no problem getting a 960, they are both close when it comes to performance. If it goes better with the CPU fine. I just need to know which ones are like on sale or are the more reliable 960s out there.

No idea about the "on sale part" but for example the GTX 960 SSC AC2.0+ from EVGA and the GAMING 4G from MSI are great cards which will fullfill any needs of reliablity and a good support. I'd probably look for a 4GB model if I was u but the budget is unlcear?? Please specify.

Just a little over budget but the 4GB vs 2GB will probably come in very handy in the future. That is what I would buy. The MSI is to much more expensive imo.

The Sapphire Nitro R9 380 is on sale on Newegg until March 9th for $189.99 ($174.99 with a $15 rebate card).  Not sure if you made a decision yet but best of luck with your friends build.

WOW, this is even cheaper than the EVGA. Get the MSI instead! only 179 right now.

I am hitting the 2GB on a moderate amount of modern games (but usually only on max settings )with my trusty GTX 770. I wouldn't say that you won't be getting through the next gen of games with only 2 but I'd say that you might as well spend those $20 bucks. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed.

Just fyi if you hit max VRAM usage in any game it will either result in stupidly low resolution textures to safe space int the memory (I am not talking a bit ugly I am talking about 25+ years ago UGLY) or even worse stuttering like HELL. The first one is no that terrible. The second one however will render any game unplayabel since you will get laaaaag of 10th up to full seconds.

Trust me, get the 4GB version if you can.
