"Memory bandwidth is basically the speed of the video RAM. It's measured in gigabytes per second (GB/s). The more memory bandwidth you have, the better."

However this doesn't mean a 256-bit graphics card isn't able to beat or be able to compete against a 512-bit graphics card. Look at some benchmarks between a GTX 970 and R9 390 they're pretty much trading blows but the R9 390 does win majority of the time. This is due to the GPU architectures. You can think of the memory bus as lanes for a traffic the wider the more cars can flow and the memory bandwidth is the speed of the cars going through.

You shouldn't really be reading too much detail into the specs of graphics card, you can if you want to learn more about them but overall you should be giving yourself a budget, what resolution do you game at and do you either want to be able to max out any current game right now or are you willing to sacrifice visual quality for performance (FPS).

I don;t really care about graphics, more about performance but thanks!
