The experience wont be affected by the screens resolution, but instead the screens input lag and pixel response.

TV's generaly have higher input lag figures and, in the case of LCD's, slower pixel response making them less ideal as PC VDU's.

Every TV will be different however, so the only way to know in advance is if there is a review out with a full array of tests, like on TFTCentral, where input lag, pixel response, colour accuracy etc are fully tested.

I personally use a 42" Plasma 1080p screen. BUT this screen is not a smart TV, and has minimal image processing so the input lag is low, and as its plasma Pixel response is instant.

You can get rather large monitors nowadays, so if u have the option, always get a monitor. That being said there are exceptions. Philips 4k 40" VA monitor is basically a cut down TV and unfortunately does have rather high input lag compared to 'proper' monitors. That being said its still within acceptable parameters for gaming, just maybe not for professional/ high end FPS gamers.
