server Slow Server Speeds

Hello Everyone! I recently built an NAS to store all of my Photoshop projects because I have lost all my data a couple times. I also store torrents, software and videos on the server too. Well I'm doing it wireless and my transfer speed is 6mbps. Its not bad so I can not complain but is there a possible way to speed it up with out going wired? Its about the same as my download speed. I download at 6 megabytes per second. So is it just going to be limited do to my internet speed?

Well I'm perfectly fine with my speeds. I'm just the type of person that likes getting the best out of what they got.

That depends entirely on your hardware and the weakest link in the chain.

 

Your NAS might be able to sustain 65-95MB/sec writes (most NAS devices do)

You CAN upgrade your wireless to get about 25-40MB/sec, but it will cost you an upgrade of your router and maybe your WiFi NIC in your computer.

 

Often I find that going wired is a bit harder to do initially, but will be faster and more consistent (which you would prefer for file transfers). 

Also - if you move your files via ethernet your are not affecting your air-time on your WiFi and since WiFi is CSMA/CD and Half-Duplex, you will have a very bad experience for all other devices on the network when you are transferring large files via WiFi.
