Fallout 4 tbh, I would not recommend a 970. In this case you should wait, however, once Pascal and Polaris go on sale take a look into the used market if you wanna stick with 900 and 300 series. You might find heavily discounted GPU's because everyone wants the latest and greatest.

interesting,But wont I as a consumer also want Pascal and polaris?

btw whats so damn good about them anyways becuase my friends told me to wait by themselves and they usaully just tell me to buy the latest and greatest I can afford right now.

than I suggest maybe waiting to save up for something like a 980ti or something but I dont think the price will be worth it to get pascal/polaris. Think of skylake, all last gen cpu's are still amazing and more easy on the wallet.

Why are they so great?

GPUs have been at the same process node for 5 years now (28nm). Why? Originally GPUs were supposed to go to 20nm 2 or 3 years ago, but 20nm flopped really big due to multiple issues, with the biggest being leakage.

Now, we are finally going to transfer to a new node-14/16nm FinFET. If you don't know what FinFET is, it is basically a different design of transistors that better controls leakage to increase efficiency. This, added with a "double jump" in process nodes will offer a HUGE leap in efficiency and so performance as well.

This is why, with only a few months until their launch, buying a GPU right now is not the best idea since in just a few months chances are there value will drop tremendously and with the same amount of money you will probably have been able to afford a GPU that is much more powerful.

CPUs are different. The reason Skylake didn't bring much of an improvement is because Intel has no competition from AMD so CPUs progress super slowly. AMD may not have a big GPU market share, but they are still competitive-Nvidia can't slow down or AMD will overtake them. Polaris and Pascal will offer huge performance improvements-nothing like Skylake.

I would get an r9 390 now. I only play at 1080p 60hz though. Pascal/Polaris cant improve on the performance only the efficiency basically with how powerful they are. I would not recommend the 970 unless you absolutely need it. If you want Nvidia wait for Pascal. The current 900 series isn't full DirectX 12 compatible. At least last time I checked anyway.

Faster memory, efficiency always increases.

My statement still stands, If you want fast VRAM go get a Fury X.

NVIDIA won't have HBM for a while. Maybe on the next Titan based GPU, but as far as I know, not on the major flagships. Also I would recommend looking here

http://www.evga.com/Products/ProductList.aspx?type=8 if you want a temporary GPU

Expect Polaris to release first, shortly followed by Pascal. We don't know anything about performance, although a safe assumption is that AMD will be more power efficient and cooler.

I'd just buy a card now. the prices of current gpus are cheaper than the newer ones will be at the same level (not performance wise just where they sit in the family of cards)

the new cards will just be the usual 10-15% performance gains we get every year. only if you're willing to pay for top end do you get the huge boost.

just look at amd.. they've rebranded the same card 3 years on the trot.. and it still holds up!
