Can a old router?

So i have an old router, i need an ethernet connection downstairs, is it possible to get an old router set up in a way that it could deliver an internet connection without running a cable into it?

not to my knowledge. repeaters work that way, routers need a wired connection

You absolutely can use a router as an access point or a repeater.

if you can install DD-WRT on it (there is a compatibility list your router has to bo on for it to work) you can set it up as a bridge or a repeater.
