Speakers effect displays?

Go to solution Solved by iamdarkyoshi,

No issues with flat screen displays. You would have to watch out with CRT displays though, as the magnet in the speakers can mess up the shadow mask in the CRT. But few people use CRTs anymore and shielded PC speakers were a thing

I'm about to redo my desk setup and wondered if having speakers right behind the monitors effect them in anyway?

I dont think there is any change, but just checking to see if I need to think about it at all.

I speak my mind, sorry if thats a problem.

Well the speakers sound is in a cone form, so by having your speakers behind your monitor you will effectively lose a bit of sounds behind your monitors if you get what I am saying.

I would suggest putting your speakers in front of your monitor(s).

I'm asking because I dont know how much space I will end up with, thanks to my new multi monitor setup.

Yeah, that's why I dont like having speakers in my setup, gotta make place for them, but it also gotta make sense. (I have a dual monitor set up too)

You really don't want them to stand higher than your monitors, since they are designed to kinda direct the sound up, but you also don't want them too far away from your ears. You also dont want them to lay flat, because.. that just makes them sound weird in my experience :S

This is the same kind of setup I will have (once they get shipped), except mine wont be debezeled. So not much room left for speakers.

Which is why I asked if they can be behind the monitors.

If you place your speakers behind those, you likely wont really clear audio :P

Does look nice though, would probably be awesome to sit in front of these.

Guess I will be using headset while gaming from now on the and have the speakers for when I move them back to landscape mode.

I just hope that my dual 980Ti can handle that setup at decent fps, without too going to much below medium settings (its a lot more demanding then 4k after all).

But productivity will be a blast on that setup.

Yeah, that setup has 18.432.000 pixels, while one 4K screen has 8.294.400 pixels.

That means that setup is more than twice the pixel of 4K :D If you would put those pixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio it would be like 6K resolution :P (about 6000 x 3375)

Yeah, it will be interested to see. Another interesting thing, will be how much I notice the 2 TN panels mixed in with the 3 IPS panels.

The 2 TN will go on the edges, just to minimise the noticed effect. And yeah, I had 2 TN panels from before so its what I ended up with total.

Guess I can always reduce to the 3 IPS panels if 5 dont work out.

So the only difference is the lose of sound a panel in between will give me?

Pretty much. If you really need them behind the panels, make them bounce off the desk under the panels towards the user

That is really hard, since the speakers are of the type that angles up.

Try placing them on their side. My previous IT job granted me two monitors and speakers, but little desk space. I put the speakers behind the monitors with the speakers facing downwards and made some paper sound guides that cupped the speaker and directed sound out the front.
