Underclock ram question

Hi, If I got a DDR3 Motherboard that only does 1066MHz will this run 1600MHz but down clock to the highest speed the motherboard can go. Thanks

If the motherboard supports XMP the memory will run at its rated speeds anyway.

So it would run 1600MHz with XMP oh thought it would only run at the motherboard highest rate it can do.

For example, my motherboard (an Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mk1) can support up to 1866MHz RAM yet it can easily use XMP to have it go higher, but the RAM sticks themselves have to support it.
