New Build

Flurr

Hey everyone,

I'm gonna be building a new build soon and I was wondering what everyone thought of it.

I have considered changing the cooler to a Noctua, would you recommend that instead?  I also would like to stick within this price range and perhaps go a little bit lower.  What suggestions do you have?

Thanks in advance!

I'd say get a Noctua if you plan to do serious OC, otherwise for a light-medium OC, even a $30 cooler should be fine (evo 212 or cryorig h7). All coolers come with paste so no need for AS5, but if you really insist, MX4 is better (its not conductive). Also I question why you went with a black drive instead of the normal blue. Everything else looks great :)

No the permalink. You go into edit build, then go to the link in the top left

You can get the list into a build list by clicking on the build name. Then click Edit Part List if you want to make changes.

@DrM,

No idea why you want to spend so much on an old cpu cooler. The H100i V2 and H100i GTX are significantly less expensive. They offer excellent performance but a bit noisily. You might consider the Kraken X61. It can be quiet and has excellent cooling performance.

I would put the cost of the two add-on fans into getting a larger ssd. (It doesn't have to be a Samsung.) If you need a little more to do so, go with a WD Blue and drop the thermal compound.

There are numerous 2x8GB memory kits with similar performance specs that are less expensive and would, at least to my eyes, be more visually pleasing, i.e. black and/or red.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

What are you going to be using it for? If you're only gaming you're probably best of saving yourself the cash on the i7 4790K and getting a i5 4690K that way you can spend the extra that you saved to bump up to a GTX 980 that will make more of a difference gaming. However if you're going to be doing video rendering and stuff I'd say stick with the i7. Although occasional rendering and heavy CPU intensive tasks wouldn't really matter. In that case I'd still recommend the i5 and the 980.

Thanks for all of the help so far everyone!  I will look into those coolers @brob!  Also, here is the permalink if you still need it @jkeasley http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XpzGWZ@JamesKennedy97 I also going to use it for rendering, hence the i7.

That's a decent build. Considering that your i7 is capable of recording in itself, maybe consider an r9 390 for better gaming performance

Also maybe consider going with a 2TB HDD
