Overclocking i5 4690k

Go to solution Solved by suchamoneypit,

I wouldn't really push it past 1.4V to be safe. thats regardless of temps, the voltage will damage the CPU over time even if the temps are fine.

Hi! Im currently running an i5 4690k @ 4.6ghz with 1.362V. With load temps (playing games) at 50-60*C, and idle temps 30-40*c.

I have a all-in-one liquid cooler 1x120m fan.

Do you guys think its worth to clock higher and go above the 1.4v mark ? if the temps are low, is it fine then or what ?

And how much would it expire my cpu overall lifetime ? :P

@suchamoneypit, do you think its safe to oc too 4.7ghz if i dont go over 1.38 ?

I mean maybe, its a linear change in lifespan and damage, there isn't a specific point where if you go over it will suddenly do a lot of damage. It seems to be a common answer in every thread that going above 1.4V on that generation isn't recommended, especially as a daily driver overclock. You could probably do it, but there are no guarantees on how long it will last.
