why do you think it's the mobo that is limiting you?

can you tell us all your overclock settings?

(you could have lost the silicon lottery and got cpu that doesn't overclock well)

also: the hyper 212 evo is great, but not great for high overclocks, so that could be another reason :)

Your setup is pretty decent, I think.

I could only get my 4670k to 4ghz also.

Wich mobo?

I did some resarch and this mobo isn't great at all for overclocking and it was most likely my mobo that didn't allow for higher overclocking. And i would mind having some extra features like SLI/XFIRE

but can you give us your load temps and the voltage?

Load temps are never over 70c and voltage is stock

if you're going for cpu performance, up the voltage and up the multiplier :D

If i increase the voltage it isnt stable :(

And this mobo doesent support sli/xfire

If you want to overclock you could consider more phases then you have on your current mobo (which i think is a 4 phase mobo). I think i would try to find a 2nd hand toptier mobo.

Would the msi krait sli editon be ok?

I am not a pro, but i assume that it is always questionable how much more phases boost oc performance (if at all and it is very situational). The krait is a nice mobo, has 6 phases but i would not spend another +$100 for only 2 phases more. In your initial post you say "mild overclocking" is not enough for you. Therefore i suggested a toptier mobo and i do not think the krait will give you alot higher chance of achieving better oc result (then with your current mobo). Because your budget is limited, i thought buying a 2nd hand toptier mobo for half the price could be a better approach to increase your chances of a higher oc then with your current mobo.

Edit/To add: Nice example of a 2nd hand mobo could be the "Gigabyte Z97X-SOC Force", which in a round up of 42 mobo's (english article has 19 mobo's in the roundup) won the gold award for oc-ing purposes (around june 2014). Hardware.info, the writers of the round up, have a pro oc team so they should know what they are talking about. An 8 phase mobo based on IR PowIRstage digital mosfets, with all the oc features you will ever need (that is what their review states so who am i to doubt that). It is just an example, there are numerous slightly older motherboards with not good but excellent oc abilities and maybe you could find a second hand one under 100 pounds.
