Yeah Windows 7 is still snappy, but the boot time on Windows 10 is insane. There are a bunch of tweaks you can do to make it more enjoyable as well.

For example if you don't want to log in with your password every time you start up your computer, you can run the 'NETPLWIZ' utility and disable password requirements.

I know you can tell Windows 7 in the settings to not ask for a password but they hid it in 10.

Basically I suggest making the switch. DX12 support is coming soon-ish and I believe it's a W10 only feature.

I'd go with Windows 10 for sure. More features, updates, and support. I've become a fan of the whole UI, which takes the best from Windows 7 and 8 and brings them together. It has even become more optimized in the last few months and bootup times are noticeably faster. New games and programs are also now being built and optimized for Windows 10.

Most definitely Windows 10. I hated Windows 8.1 and always stayed with 7. However I tried 10 and haven't gone back. The boot times are truly incredible. If you have no startup programs you can boot within 4 seconds on a good SSD, with everything responsive and no lag like when opening a browser or windows file explorer (when it just boots up). The UI is beautiful and gaming performance is even better then 7. The multi tasking is now similar to Linux (thank God) and the search bar is incredibly useful.

In my opinion Windows out did themselves with Windows 10. However I must say I am not a fan of the Windows store. I have had a lot of problems with it that were not user errors but rather Microsoft errors. The updated browsers (for looks) that go with Windows 10 are also a plus, they tend to have a flat style to them which kind of resembles Androids 6.0 Marsh mellow theme (Google Chrome and Firefox this is noticeable in). They also added an action center which can be at times quite useful. Also the ability to stream to Smart TV's on your network without the need of any extra programs is also a bonus. Windows 10 has my recommendation.

I use Windows 7 for my servers, I still run server 2008.  But at the same time, I highly advise Windows 10 for desktop/home computers.  This is because of multiple reasons:

  1. Better Security
(Windows 8 included great security improvements, Windows 10 includes even more.  This also adds extra policy groups to restrict applications more or less depending on their trust.  Windows 8 added the change of mind from trusted until untrustworthy to untrusted till trustworthy).

  2. Better Optimization
(The Windows Registry is a fantastic component of the operating system that really seperates it from Unix-Based operating systems such as Linux.  And Windows 10 has an improved Registry, also contains other performance improvements to do with the hibernation file.  It uses the hibernation file to allow the computer to boot faster. etc)

  3. More patches & Support
(I'm not saying Microsoft won't support Windows 7, but Windows 10 is their focus and they will be actively finding vulnerabilites and bugs in Windows 10 compared to Windows 7.  Windows 7 is good but it has been the case often that Microsoft will patch vulnerabilities in current Windows versions compared to older Windows Versions even if they are still supported. )

  4. Better Compatibility With Future Technologies
(Windows 10 will be getting Direct X 12, and it will also be able to use certain technologies limited to Windows 10 only.  Using Windows 10 gives you extra bonus features and bonus support later on.  People who use Windows 7, will eventually turn out like those who used XP till the last days.
They loved it but were cut off from so many technologies. )

My biggest issues with WIndows 10 is that the start menu does not like to work all the time. The OS hangs a lot of the time once you have been using the OS for a month or so. Additionally, if a big update comes down apps tend to not work anymore (groove music for example will open and immediately close).  I have tried many fixes on the internet for these issues BUT I tend to have to reinstall Windows again to fix the issues which is really unfortunate.
