I was wondering if hyper threading is necessary for gaming, and more importantly, streaming. I would stream from my Xbox ONE console and am considering a 4690k (which doesn't have hyperthreading). Would that be sufficient?

No, it isn't necessary for either. It can help depending on the game and settings, but you can do just fine with an i5.

no it's not, it's useful in certain utilities but otherwise don't spend 500$ for an i7 + hyperthreading

I think he's responding to the question if the 4690K is enough or not.
