I've recently gotten to try the Apple Watch for a week, (for free, via. various things, didn't get to keep it.) I liked it and am interested in getting one of my own. I've been looking in to getting a Pebble Time, but i'm on a pretty tight budget. What would you guys recommend? Should I try to get one used?

If you want a full on smartwatch with a real screen, maybe try the moto 360.  Check to see if apple is fixing bugs with it before you consider it tho.  If you dont need a full screen, but a time and notification viewer see above

I got the Basis Peak and it's pretty good although not the most comfortable thing. I'd probably get a Pebble Time Steel for the apps, increased compatibility (peak only works on cm13 after dirty flashing it over cm12.1), and without a heart rate sensor it might be more comfortable.

I ended up getting a pebble time off of eBay for 80$, and I'm loving it.

I take it you have an iphone? In terms of Android Wear, the ASUS Zenwatch 2 is a great value, if it is available in your region. Otherwise, the Pebble Time is good and it recently received a price cut.

If you really only want notifications on your wrist then you can look into getting a sub $100 fitness tracker, but it isn't a substitute for a smart watch.
