gtx 580 vs 660

Could you give us your budget, it might be better to let the whole LTT community find a card. Neither of those are really desirable.

HD 7870 will be better then these two.

I had ASUS GTX 660 DC2 and it was good card. We made benchmarks in games and it was better then 580 2 years ago. today it will be faster then it was 2 years ago, also it will have dx12 support, it has newer architecture.

 

But! And this is big but. HD 7870 has better DX12 support and has asynchronous shading. That does not have any nvidia card.

I do not know how are prices in your country but in my you can get 7950 with 660 price.

580 is faster.

660 uses less power, the comparable GPU to a 580 is the 660Ti/ 670 & 960.

I understand. In October, some guy was selling 15 Tahiti based GPUs from $105 to $180 on craigslist in Melbourne.

Look on eBay, Gumtree or Craigslist. You can get them for less than $120.

7950 would be my pick of those two, more Vram and the architecture is still being used and updated through drivers with newer GPU's.

Do you mind telling me your city or suburb, its usually better to spend the money on a card instead of shipping.

Really, all of them are going to be in Melbourne or near Melbourne. 4 out of 6 people who live in Victoria live in Melbourne, probably another 1 out of 6 live less than 100km of the centre of Melbourne.

Between the 580 and the 660, in my experience they are as close as makes no difference the same (unless you are going to OC, then the 580 will win)

 

I had a 660 a while ago and a buddy of mine had a 570 and he had to OC quite a bit to match the 660 @ stock.

Yeah I'm aware of that, but some people aren't willing to drive even 25km or even 15.
