I bought a Samsung 4K TV recently and upgraded my DTH to 4K but due to lack of 4K channels I think I am not getting full out of my TV. now I want to build a cheap HTPC which can run 4K over Blu-Ray or From YouTube.

I have a Core 2 Quad and LGA 775 MoBo, the only thing left is the GPU.

So, what is the cheapest GPU which can output 4K vidoes, I just want it to output 4K video, no need to run games, not even minesweeper at lowest settings.

if you're not playing an video games, just purchase the cheapest possible graphics card with either an HDMI 2.0 connector or an displayport 1.2 connector.

If you go with an graphics card with earlier types hdmi or earlier types of displayport or dvi, you might be able to run 4k however it won't be very enjoyable as low "Hz"

Only 30Hz, probably choppy as hell too

It is for movies and videos. Most movies aren't over 24 FPS so I think that would be fine.

It would still be choppy, get at least a GTX 650. That's what I used to use in my HTPC before I started gaming on it. It has one HDMI port on it and is a decent card. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PNY-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-650-Ti-VCGGTX650T1XPB-1-GB-GDDR5-PCI-e-lightly-used-/252300870043?hash=item3abe4dc19b:g:Yx0AAOSwG-1W0J68

even navigating through windows could be a bit on the choppy side.

Windows won't be choppy because I would be installing Linux :P

It's fine if it's a bit choppy no problem.

OP is only watching movies (which yes are mainly shot in 24FPS)

web browsing, watching youtube, using the desktop, everything will be horrible

and yes, there are 48/60fps blurays that are starting to become more common too

even streaming from online services at 4k 60Hz is possible

i dont think locking yourself down to 30hz at 4k is a good idea, especially since the future is coming real fast

OP probably doesn't care too much, they have a C2Q rn so it's not like those are the fastest - my Pentium G3258 struggled at the desktop in 1080p.
