Just wondering what socket this cpu cooler is for. Is it 755?

measure the width between the push locking pins

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

looks like 775 for me

Yeah that's early 775. Later models had a copper slug in the center and a much larger contact zone.

LGA 775 uses the 72mm width for the push pin mounts

 

so your is the Core 2 Duo era coolers

 

the Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme later models have the copper center for better heat dispersion to the aluminum fin arrays
