Yes. Should I not have by any chance?

It should have been plugged in. Try this version:  https://github.com/nefarius/ScpToolkit/releases/tag/v1.5.5787.40106

If the link doesnt work, this is the one you want:

Go into the device manager and uninstall everything else related to your controller first

Up until now I've been using DS3 tool / Motionjoy (it was called one of those things, or both) but I have to re-install it now due to a fresh windows install. Before I install it again, is there a better alternative? I ask because DS3 was quite... "Temperamental" (It only worked properly half of the time, and only on half of computers).

Thanks!

Better than both of your suggestions is SCP Server. I have had issues with versions newer than 1.5 or whatever, but the newer versions have working bluetooth support

Better DS3 is a replacement for DS3 tool. Both work with motion joy drivers. Better DS3 is exactly what the name says...better. Under windows 7 I was able to get my DS3 working over blu-tooth without a problem using it. After upgrading to windows 10 it is broken for me but that may be due to the upgrade of the OS more than anything else.

You either get an app to mimic a keyboard and mouse or mimic an xbox controller.

Use SCP Server. Makes the PS3 seen as a 360 controller. Works flawlessly .

Just gave SCP a go, followed a tutorial and installed the xbox controller drivers, the .net 4.5 & directx but it doesn't recognize the controller in the monitor, I have both the monitor and the driver running. Any idea why it doesn't show up?

Scrreenshot, just in case it helps...
