Hi,

I've been interested in CPU delidding for quite some time now and started thinking - why to put a lid on them anyway? That's an additional piece of metal and layer of thermal compound between the die itself and your cooler. Only useful thing about it is that you can be sure not to apply too much of the thermal paste and cover entire PCB and it's overall easier. And can't crack the die as easily.

I need S340. But more Define S'ish

safety, the metal cover is a lot less delicate than a tiny lump of silicon

also it helps spread out the pressure from the cooler so not all the preddure is on the die, but also on the surrounding PCB

less chance of damaging the CPU from non-careful people
