When watching a movie will 144hz help? or will it only help if the movie is in 144fps? also is this a good monitor? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009642

I think movies aren't shot at anything higher than 30fps so no there's no benefit.

A few are in 48fps and are called "hfr" movies, but I don't care about those.

Oh dear...

first of all, most movies are only 24 fps, so getting a 144hz monitor will not make it smoother. the Only benefit is that it may reduce jutter, as with a 60hz panel, it shows one move frame for 2 monitor refreshes, and the other for 3 monitor refreshes, leading to jittery motion. since 144hz is divisible by 24, it will show each frame for the same amount of refreshes, making it seem smoother. You could get the same result by just underclocking the monitor to 48hz, so I would not get a 144hz monitor just for that reason.

What reason do you get 144hz monitor then? Also there is no display port, will it still support 144hz?

for more fluid motion on screen, when the source is at 144fps, like whne in windows, or playing games. Some games benefit more than others. Counter strike, for example is very fast paced, and so seeing more frames per seconds may give you an edge.

1080p 144hz will also work on dual like dvi, which is what most of those monitors use.

If the stand is detachable, which I assume it is, then it should be pretty simple.

Get some automotive spraypaint, or plastidip, and cover it over. You could also get some carbon fiber vinyl from amazon, and cover it up that way.
