I am looking for a USB Hub that connects to my PC through an ethernet cable. Heres my reasoning for looking for this(because I'm certain someone will ask this, and refuse to let up about "why" i need it instead of contribute anything helpful.): Basically I have my PC across the room from me. Yet my monitor and all my peripherals are on my side. The cables aren't long enough(except the HDMI), and I'm getting tired of walking over to my computer everytime I wanna unplug something, or swap out a flash drive. I need something like what Linus used in his personal rig to route the IO from his server rack to his PC, except I don't have the $200 to fork over for one. So my plan is to get a USB hub for all my IO (mouse, keyboard, headphones). Thing is, I don't want all my USB devices to be bottlenecked by being plugged into one USB port, and I don't want a bunch of extension cables littering my room. So I thought: "what if I found a USB hub that connected to the computer through an ethernet cable? Since it's significantly faster than USB, I figure it can accommodate a mouse, keyboard, and headphones all at once without bottlenecking my peripherals. So does it exist? And if so where can I buy one?

Don't do drugs. Do hugs!

Pretty sure that doesn't exist , considering all the protocol incompatibilites etc. But don't take my word for it , i've never searched for it myself

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

I'm not sure if this exists. But to be honest I don't think and ethernet cable could supply enough power for all your peripherals

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

I feel like ethernet would likely cause issues with your peripherals (assuming what you're looking for exists).....so maybe getting two USB hubs? One connected via usb for your peripherals and one through this alternative?

Edit:

Maybe something like this? http://www.startech.com/Networking-IO/USB-PS2/4-Port-USB-over-IP-Network-Hub-Adapter-USB-Ethernet-Device-Server~USB4000IP

You can't bottleneck a mouse and keyboard. Although if you'll plug USB sticks into the same hub, yes that would obviously be slow on USB 2.0

But a USB 3 hub should be fine:

You'll just need a long USB 3 cable to connect it to your computer.

He means power, not bandwidth. That's also just a standard USB hub, he wants a USB hub that goes over ethernet, not USB.

Huh, didn't even think about bottlenecking power. Although the hub I linked has a 12V DC input too.

What you're looking for is called 'USB 2.0 over Ethernet' Amazon has a bunch of devices. Here's one. Read through a few reviews. I'm not familiar with this particular Manufacturer.

Looks like what I was looking for, but I shat myself upon seeing the price tag. xD Anyone know of any cheaper solutions of getting all my PCs IO from one end of my room to the other with one cable?

That's still not a USB hub that connects via ethernet. He doesn't want a USB hub that connects via USB since multiple USB 3.0 drives connected to it will saturate the single USB 3.0 link to the PC.

Exactly. Plus I'm still not sure what to do about my headphones which use a 3.5mm connector. Most USB ports don't have one of those.

edit: It doesn't NEED to use Ethernet necessarily, just something that wont saturate as easy as a USB 3.0. And is affordable XD.

Speed should be fine unless you are using more than one drive at a time on it.

And here's a way to plug in your headphones: http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Headphone-Microphone-Aluminum-Compatibility/dp/B00NMXY2MO

Ok, well that's one problem down. Should work for audio anyway. What if I have a mouse, keyboard, headphones, 2-3 flashdrives, and a disk reader connected to it? I get the feeling that'd be a bit much?

2-3 flash drives and a disk reader? Yes that would bottleneck it. Not like SUPER slow unless you're using accessing all the storage devices at once.

But I could see it going down to half speed or less with a few being used at a time.

That's where you'd want the ethernet one.. unfortunately it does mean a higher price.

Perhaps an alternative is moving your PC closer to your desk. Or your desk closer to your PC.

Ok, I guess it'l just have to be a bit slower then. As long as its not cripplingly slow I can live with it for now.
