Need Help with my Mail Server

jwworker201

Hey guys,

I decided to host my own e-mail server so I decided to use Zimbra Collaboration Suite on Ubuntu Server 14.04.

I set up my MX record with  dnsmasq and it worked just fine.
But I cannot recieve e-mail from outside, but can send.. All ports are forwarded properly.

I tested my mx using mxtoolbox.com and I get a dmarc error. how to fix it? or have I configured my mx record false?

I am new at the DNS stuff so sorry if I ask stupid questions..

Thanks for your time!

Do you think I should better use an easier solution like citadel?

I've gotten this too a few times, but I don't remember at all what I did to fix it, its some missing config I think. Googling should turn up something helpful, that's what I did each time since I kept forgetting when I did the last setup.

Also check it with http://mxtoolbox.com/ That might help in narrowing down the problem.

ISPs by default block port 25 now days to prevent wide spread deployment of open mail relays on home internet connections. Just give your ISP a ring and ask for it to be unblocked.

Or use a dns service that allows translating ports to something that is not blocked by your ISP.

I don't think that this is my ISP... An test installation with citadel worked just fine. But Citadel has too limited functionality, has an ugly web interface and I had problems connecting it to Outlook/Thunderbird...
I think the nearest thing would be a misstake in my mx record but I have no Idea what it could be (as I mentioned before)

Can you try this http://www.mail-tester.com

Should give you some error details like if you're missing PTR Records, SPF Records, FQDN issues, etc...

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry for my really late reply!

But I have it working now. I switched my dns to cloudflare and switched from zimbra to citadel and all is working fine now!
But thanks to all!
