AMD has nothing worth considering outside of the extreme budget situations right now, and I highly doubt Zen will outperform Haswell (or skylake) -- I certainly wouldn't be waiting for Zen.

you don't need 4ghz. A Xeon E3 1231v3 @3.5ghz is more than capable of handling gaming. Especially with a 960...a locked i5 is a more appropriate CPU to pair with a 960, so like I said, I would really suggest putting more money towards your GPU than your cpu.

whats the max GPU a xeon e3 handle? you say save money, and go more GPU than cpu, i see the E3 is like 250$

theres the FX-9590 at 4.7 ghz stock (8 cores too) with 8mb of cache. similar price to i5 6600k

SLI 980Tis

The E3 is like $250, but can run on a $40 board whereas a 6700k is $380~ and requires a $100+ board.

And that gets stomped on by even an i5-4440 in gaming.

yep.

lol, would you like to prove me wrong? The FX series can't compete with Intel's offerings.

For rendering on a tight budget an FX cpu can make sense (FX6 > i3, FX8 > locked i5), but for gaming or anything more than a tight budget intel will outperform anything AMD has to offer.

If Zen makes a jump, maybe id the consider. but there has been no specs and tests done, so im left blank on AMD's part. the Xeon is looking nice atm though to be honest

Don't use CPU boss it's an awful basis for a real world comparison. But yes, the 4790 would slightly (irrelevantly slightly) outperform a Xeon E3 since it's clocked .2ghz higher.

but other than that, since there clock is almost the same, same arc, same specs basically, they will run the same?

yes

The only difference is the lack of an integrated gpu and the clock speed (as well as being a tiny bit more efficient).

so...all in all...xeon is the better option in this because i actually dont have any motive to overclock my cpu AT ALL (past problems with a computer that is no longer with us...) so also since they are the same socket, I can keep the black/white theme since the LGA is the same :) and with the saved money, i can pool it and wait till i get enough for a 970 or something

you don't need such an expensive cooler -- even a stock cooler is fine (other than being obnoxiously loud). I would also consider going with a different/cheaper PSU -- I would either go with something cheaper or something capable of SLI/Crossfire.

im not really an overclocker on the CPU, so i guess i can save more money and get the 212 cooler. i dont really think i would nee to SLI anything because i dont have that much money to spend lol. any thoughts on PSU with a white/black theme? or just white cables?

Are you set on the Define S? Maybe go with something that has a PSU shroud (like the Black/White H440) -- I personally really like cases with PSU shrouds. and then just get some white extensions.

As for the PSU itself, the psu you chose is perfectly fine, I'm just giving my personal suggestion. I would either be go with a solid/cheap unit (like the Seasonic S12II 520w or XFX P1 550w -- $55~) or something really high end that will last through several builds/upgrades/SLI/crossfire (like the EVGA GQ/G2 750w/850w -- $100~).

The psu i have selected is a gold certified and 5 star rating. im pretty set on the Define S. harddrives are in back, sound dampening, SSD cage in back, all cable managed (im kinda OCD about that stuff). ill check out the other 2 desktops you put in the message.

Like I said, the PSU you chose is a solid unit, it's just in an awkward spot imo -- I would either want to go cheap and solid ($50~) or high tier and expandable ($100~). Whereas the PSU you chose is perfect if you're confident you'll never get a second GPU, but it's priced kind of awkwardly between the two price points that would make me want to go one way or the other.
