I'm confused, why is newer a "worse performer"?

BX100 used MLC flash, the BX200 was their first attempt at TLC.

As a consumer you likely won't notice much of an issue, it's still a decent drive... But with the better one being almost the same price... To me it's worth it, but idk if it is to you.

I just went onto Amazon to purchase a Kingston SSD (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A1ZTZOG) to my surprise Amazon have put all the negative reviews first, do Amazon have something against Kingston?

This is why.

The drive was a bait and switch.

Also the ones that go first are the "most helpful" you vote on how helpful something is. Nothing to do with amazon at all. All from user voting.

v300 was really slow in the past because kingston tried to make it as cheap as possible, idk if they resolved it, but the internet as a whole hates the v300

It doesn't matter whether or not they resolved it (they partially did) nobody should buy it because you don't know what you'll get. They didn't do a full-blown recall, so it's still a dangerous product to buy.

Wow, then why does Linus accept sponsorship from Kingston if Kingston sell a "scam" product?

its just their SSDnow lineup, which afaik is a different division of their hyperx lineup (afaik what linus used)

It is a bit weird that all the negative reviews are first like even though most are over a year old.

£50 ish GBP

Not as good as the BX100, but for around that much I think that this would be your best bet.

The BX100 would be a bit more: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00RQA6TEI/?tag=pcp0f-21

Oh see my edit, the BX100 is £3 more than the BX200, and it is a decent bit better.

Thanks, I just had a quick check on the crucial website, it's listed as "no longer available", does that mean it's discontinued, if so will crucial still support the drive if it failed in the first year? http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ct250bx100ssd1

It should still have the warranty that it comes with since it is being sold new, but I don't know that for a fact, I guess. It's new hardware that has been discontinued but still being sold new through a vendor... I think in that scenario they would still honor their 3 year warranty, but I don't know that for a fact.

If you want to be safe the BX200 is newer, but a bit of a worse performer. But it is absolutely NOT discontinued.

I really do think it would still have the warranty though.
