Do I need more RAM?

Go to solution Solved by dragoon20005,

RAM only affect how many apps you can run before the RAM runs out like opening multiple tabs in Chrome

gaming relies more on the CPU and GPU

your GPU is the weakest link here

So I have an Acer Aspire V5-573PG-9160 who's specs are as listed:

  • GPU: i7-4500U 1.8GHz Turbo Boost 3.0GHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 4 GB
  • 8GB DDR3 L Memory
  • 1000 GB HDD

so for my general usage it runs just fine but while I'm gaming I average about 60-70 FPS, usually hovering around lower 60's. Now I know that adding more RAM will not change the FPS drastically but should I add more how much will I benefit if I do. If so which memory do you guys recommend and is there any software optimization to help my FPS other than closing background programs. Last question is can someone explain what Turbo Boost actually is, is just a marketing scheme?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

you would not benefit very much at all uness u have 1000 chome tabs. turbo boost allows a cpu to run at a higher clock if themals and power allows

My rig: r7 1700 @ 3.9/1.35v, 16gb ddr4 3200, assorted rando SSDs, hx 1050, vega 64 1650/1025

More RAM wouldn't help in your case since that CPU is going to be the bottleneck... or maybe the GPU.  If it is the CPU, faster RAM would actually help your fps, but you'd have to do some tests first to be sure.  Even so, it wouldn't be super drastic.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I think it might be the GPU
