Ok so my laptop is absolute trash but I play a lot of games. I usually Have to play things in 800x600, which is 4:3. two of the games I play ( Warframe and colin mcrae dirt 2) can do this thing where I put it in 800x600 on dirt 2 or 1024x768 on warframe and make the aspect ratio 16:9 which makes it look like a higher resolution. I was wondering how I can force a game onto 800x600 but 16:9

Thanks :D

You can force your laptop to display everything at that res while you are playing the games, and it won't warp, but you will get black borders.

Some games can render squashed  and then scale it out at the end

A lot of console games last gen did it like Halo 3 and MGS4

I'm not certain you can do this system wide in windows for games

Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/  750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R

IF your GPU can handle it, games can super sample the graphics to a higher resolution, then down sample to your output resolution so that it looks better, but eats more of your video memory at the same time. Back when I was first benching my 980m, I'd run tomb raider at 4k super sampled down to 1080p to see what frame rate I could manage. . .

but as others have said, aspect ratio is determined by the output resolution. Just divide your resolution to its lowest point and there you go.

2560x1080 works out to be 21:9

1920 x 1080 is 16:9

800 x 600 is 4:3
