Locked cpu for gaming?

So, it might be better to go with a higher but locked cpu i7 instead of spending on a i5 K?

Overclocking for gaming doesn't give that big of a performance boost (unless you have a pretty sizable bottleneck), but we have seen games that benefit from hyperthreading in a pretty substantial way. So yes, a locked i7 is worth getting over an unlocked i5. Unless you enjoy overclocking, (it is a hobby to some) then you won't be losing out on anything and gaining performance with hyperthreading.

Here are some of the things that bug me for a while:

1.I've seen a lot of people going for a 6600K + Z170 board. I just wonder how much of a performance difference will it make if you go with a 6700 (non K) + H170 or B150 board.

2.Apparently, Intel have removed BCLK overclock but is it still a valid thing to consider if you're going for a locked cpu?

Just some of the question that've banging my mind these few days and Intel wants to force you buy their K series for oveclocking. :(

Coming from someone who owns an i7 2600 and a Radeon HD 7850, yes, locked i7s can be very much worth it.

As someone who owns a locked i7 3770, I will second this.

OC'ing your CPU unless it's the bottleneck will not give you that big of a performance boost.

Yep, and even then, it has to be a pretty big bottleneck.

With the way games are using more thread right now I'd say go for the locked i7 because there still plenty fast enough out the box and Ul have the 8 threads
